Context

IN 2018 Marcel sold design -build landscape company in Colorado and flew with his family of 7 to Colombia south America.

Shortly after Rigoberto and his family arrived in Tabio Colombia. He and his family are from a coffee-growing region nearly 500 km. to the south. He moved his family to the new location in Tabio. He had arrived previously in the area seeking work following a bad coffee harvest. In December 2021 over the holidays, Zane and Rigo found themselves working in a carpentry shop along with Zane’s brother Ira and Rigo’s son Brian. There, racking their brains together about ways to get out of the rut of hand to mouth living, Rigo brought up his long fondled idea of a coffee exporter…the one big link in the chain that coffee growers like himself found it almost impossible to achieve due to the mountains of paperwork and legal procedures required. He dreamed of being able to someday provide his brothers and community with sustainable prices. Zane nodded his head and told him he’d give it a try…probably because he didn’t have anything to lose at the moment, and it also was probably the best idea they had come up with yet. So, a partnership was formed between Rigo, Marcel and Zane and there began the legal processes and documentation that we hammered steadily after hours and days off our normal work, for nearly 2 years. In the fall of 2023, we received our export license and almost right away exported several small shipments of roasted and unroasted coffee via airfreight. We are now trying to expand our client base with roasted coffee to hopefully set up our own roaster which Rigo will likely operate. We also hope to make more key contacts with roasters stateside to provide them with directly sourced, quality Colombian coffee.

A few details on our roasted coffee…

Almost all our roasted coffee is sourced directly from Rigo’s family or friends where he personally has a reference of how their farms are managed and what quality of coffee they produce. We then take the dried green beans to another friend of his local town and where it is milled and roasted. We then ship it 10 hours north where Rigo and his family package and prepare the shipment. Once the legal paperwork is worked through for the shipment Rigo takes it to the international airport, and it is on its way to Boise ID. We distribute it from Payette ID as well as a point in PA.
